ELBY BRASS vs Fredericksburg's Finest New Year's Eve Extravaganza
When you match up the biggest, baddest brass band with the sexiest cabaret show around, it's one thing. When that all happens on New Year's Eve at The Otter House, it's something else. Find out which one it is by not flaking out and bringing your butt down to the best party to shut 2011 out. Dress to impress, you know the deal.

Organizing a musical experiment called Fredericksburg Rock Lotto. The basic idea is to get a bunch of musicians together, randomly assign them into bands, give them some time to compose a set of original music, then have a big concert with all of them. Last night, twenty-three folks from around town did just that, the show will be at The Otter House on Friday, April 1, 2011. Here's the Facebook event if you're into that sort of thing.

I composed a new theme song for the Tell Fredericksburg podcast, you can hear it in this week's edition. Be sure to subscribe on iTunes to get future updates.
PS - Here's my story from that session.

I recently participated in a new monthly event called Tell. Hosted at the new bookstore Read All Over, it is a forum for live storytelling with one stipulation: all the stories must be personal and true. After the live event, the individual stories are composed into a weekly podcast series. You can listen to the first episode and hear my tales of youthful indiscretion.
The next event is May 15 and the theme is "Firsts." If you'd like to speak, send Maura Wilson an email and she'll put you on the lineup.

I'll be speaking at tonight's meeting of Refresh Fred. The topic for tonight is web APIs, I'll be focusing specifically on Flickr's API. I'll show off some recent websites I've made using it, then we'll collaborate as a group to make a small app. If you want to go, check out this Facebook event.

Listen to the demo online
I'm releasing some new demo tracks online, there will be one a day for a few days. This is some original acoustic work I have been doing for the past few years, this is the first time I've been able to get something down on a recording. I'd like to do more fleshed out versions of these songs in the future, but I like the stripped down quality of these, too. Stay tuned.

Here's a little promotional video that I made for RIFF 2009. The video sources are all from entries in this year's festival. The music is a song called "Innovation" by Vinyl Life. Hope you dig it.
